Salon Raumverstehen #2

31. Juli 2021 – Deep Mapping & Cycling Spaces am ZK/U – Zentrum für Kunst und Urbanistik

Co-curator Philip Boos | Guests Lea Bauer and Eva Nöthen

A cooperation with the ZK/U

The method of 'deep mapping' enables a personal experience in which social discourses and personal narratives do not exclude each other but can coexist. In this salon, deep mapping approaches were used to explore and map experiences of cycling. An introduction to the method in the context of artistic research was followed by short practical exercises on and with one's own bicycle. Together we developed a collective cartography that focused on direct (subjective) perceptions as well as associations and memories of the participants. It was about the complexity and personal relevance of movement in the urban environment. The aim was to set a contrast to the routine, accelerated everyday life with a sharpened awareness and attentiveness of the self.
